What you should know before you go

Fresno Bike Party is just that, a mobile party on bikes!

You invite your friends, we invite our friends and we all become friends.
Every ride will have a PitStop, a halfway point where we will “chill” (Usually about 30 minutes or so, give people enough time to order and enjoy their hot chocolate or whatever).
Of course you may stay or leave as soon as you need to.

“We will peer pressure you into doing these things” list:

  • We ride on the right lane, closest to the right, avoiding debris of all sorts
  • Never ride on the sidewalk
  • Do not litter, respect this place we all call home.
  • Ride straight, be predictable when making ride changes.
  • Call out when you see ahead that can cause danger to another, i.e. “Broken Glass! PotHole!”
  • Obey traffic signals, stop at lights/ signs. When crossing a stop sign, cross at about 15 at a
time, allowing traffic to pass. Do not anger a motorist who thinks they own that sign.
  • Roll away from conflict. I’m just going to go out there and say it, Fresno has some
jerks, people who think they own the road and do not like that bicycling is growing and
even more upset that you are in their neighborhood. Ignore idiots and don’t give such a
fun city event a bad name. We want to be remembered for the positive we bring to this
city. Ask yourself if it’s worth it.
  • Accidents happen but it’s what happens after that also counts. If you should crash with another bicyclist, make sure you are both ok, shake it off and hug it out. Protect your front tire. If you are following someone so closely that your front tire even grazes their back tire, YOU will instantly fall. If you are slowing down, yell, “Slowing!” Otherwise the person behind you will eat leaves. Ride smart, keep your friendly distance.
  • No drinking and riding. Yes, we will call the police on you, as ride announcers of this FBP we do not think it is worth the injury you can cause to yourself and/ or another if you choose to do something of that nature. Plus, we want you “all” there to enjoy the beautiful night sky!
  • Meet new people, ride with a different crowd, get to know your fellow Fresnians!
  • LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS AND LIGHTS… If you do not have any,
like RobertDowneyJr says in Tropic Thunder, “Get Some!” #ShopLocal
  • BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENERGY YOU BRING: No drama, just fun, laughs and good times.
  • Visit your local bike shop and get things you require for changing a flat. You might need it.
  • If you plan on leaving your bike unattended, don’t forget your U-Lock, those bike lock cables are like cutting spaghetti with a fork for some bike thieves. I learned that the very very hard way, as some of you might have as well.#ULocker4Life #LessonLearned #RookieMistake

Sounds good, this an ongoing event with different venues and is there some sort of support vehicle.

    • Yes, this is a “Every 3rd Friday” ride. Different ride themes, different routes. There is no vehicle support or any other type of support, except emotional support and good old fashion cheering you on. We are bike riders who just want to ride. Whether if 5 riders show up, or 50 (usual amount of folks that have made it out on these chilly nights) we all ride as a group. We also never print out route maps but post the route a few days before the ride. We all are pretty good about waiting up for one another at the long red lights.

Come out on Friday and see for yourself what we are all about.

What are most people riding(Type of bike that is) I have a few different types. Any required equipment helmets, lights a chase ambulance?

    • The coolest thing about this whole ride is that we have a blend of everything; Fixies, road, bmx, hybrids, custom frames and cross bikes also. Bring whatever rides. Helmets are 100% up to you, this is a RIDE AT YOU “OWN” RISK RIDE. Yes, they are encouraged!! Lights are a MUST, not because we say, but because it’s the law and frankly only stupid people ride their bikes at night without lights. So please anyone who is reading this.. make sure they work/ are fully charged, etc. BEFORE you ride. Plus, the lights look so amazing just flooding the bike lanes. Add extra lights and other fun flashing things to you bike. This ride is about having fun, being safe and building community.
      XOXO,

      FBP
